BECK: MONGOLIAN CHOP SQUAD EPISODE 1

alright so before i tell you anything you need to listen to this OP i fucking LOVE IT when a theme song so perfectly captures the vibe of a show like this. the lyrics are such nonsense but it sounds fun and THATS ALL THAT MATTERS. I WAS MADE TO HIT IN AMERICA!!!!!!! dont starve btw jack: holy fuck her shirt said jesus is coming jack: get a screenshot of that for the website right now dont worry i did HILL BILL Y CHICKEN DANGER SO GOOD ‼️ this first episode, im pretty sure, is setting up the basis to become a rock band type anime. there's not a lot of rocking its just introducing us to our main characters and setting up dynamics for later. like this screenshot pretty accurately depicts two of them. there's the Cool teenager (red shirt) named ryusuke. the Scaredy Cat middle schooler called koyuki. and a freaky lil dog guy named Beck hi Beck there's also a gamer girl childhood-best-friend she's fun too the episode has a lot of making japanese voice actors do english VA work. but its more understandable since its 2004 and there probably weren't many options for native english speakers and it adds a certain charm to the whole thing. like there's this insanely aggro foreigner guy and he just swears SO MUCH its really funny it's definitely a show thats adding in a lot of english for the Cool points factor. like ryusuke is japanese but he speaks english fluently and Goddd fuck he's so cool he's in a band with a guy named Mike and everything holy shittt dude and again: those opening lyrics. i cant stop thinking about them. the actual plot hasn't really showed itself yet so i cant make any judgement calls on that but considering what ive seen i think itll be like. band drama. which is fun i like band drama. i would recommend anybody reading to watch the first episode it's not like. "HOLY SHIT BLOWING ME UP OUT OF THE WATER" good, but i think it does a good job setting up characters for episode 2. i enjoyed it

do i want to watch more?

yeah absolutely LOL this episode 1 feels like half of an episode (even though i fully enjoyed all of it) i want to watch the second episode!!! and that's the BEST THING that a first episode can do for an audience. i want to know more about these characters!

this show is really nice to look at im really enjoying the artstyle. its a lil rough at times when it comes to the people, but i can forgive it because it otherwise looks pleasant and i especially enjoyed the establishing shots like the last two. so pretty! i do love a good dingy cityscape the christianity moments in the OP are interesting to me too i wonder if those are for the #AMERICA aesthetics or if its going to play a bigger part later. like koyuki looks like he's dressed to go to church in front of that chicken place. there's a zoom-in on a church sign that says "PRAY - OR YOU WILL BECOME PREY". whats that all about?!

YAKITATE!! JAPAN EPISODE 1

my jaw is on the FLOOR right now. WHAT DO YOU MEAN IM THREE MINUTES IN?! THERE'S AN AKIRA SLIDE IN THE OP?!?!?!?!? WITH THE MOST HEARTFELT AND SENSITIVE BACKING TRACK??!?!?!? This is a show about bread. Sorry, that's not accurate. This is a shonen about bread. the main character is named Azuma Kazuma. every country has its own bread named after it. english bread, german bread, french bread. these breads are the representative breads of their respective countries. But Japan Doesn't Have A Bread Named AFter It. Because theyr e Japanese and eat Rice but, Azuma Kazuma (pictured below, being choked by his sister) has made it his life's mission to create this bread. It's called Japan. Get it? Japan. He will make Japan. this first episode, we learn kazuma's backstory, which explains why he wants to create Japan, and has made being a baker his number one aspiration in life. so he spends half the episode as a 5 year old boy and then we timeskip 10 years to the present to him being a 15 year old baker. basically kazuma met a baker and tried out his bread and was shocked at how Tastyyyy it was. the baker offered to let kazuma make bread, and discovered that kazuma had a natural talent for making bread. the baker closed his shop to move to tokyo, and told kazuma that they may meet again, if kazuma becomes a baker one day... the baker is also the guy that gave kazuma the inspiration to make Japan to begin with. it's his dream, too. so kazuma is going to the Big City of Tokyo to become an employee for Pantasia. They make bread there. and that's where the episode ends! the end! Oh, i'm ever so sorry. There's one detail i've forgotten to mention. Kazuma has Solar Hands. What are Solar Hands? Solar Hands are a very rare, Legendary type of person. when Kazuma kneads dough. it ferments quickly. because his hands are warm. Because he has Solar Hands. The Legendary Ability. they show his hands glowing like the sun so many times. i still cant tell if it's just to emphasize how Solar his Hands are or if its like an actual effect of Solar Hands.

this show seems like it somehow has every single trope in it. there's a bunch of characters in the intro that we don't really get to see a lot of here, but we get to see glimpses of them at the end of the episode, when kazuma goes inside of Pantasia. he has to compete against 35 other prospective bakers in order to earn a job there. One of them is a fucking swordsman? That goes "I'll kill them all"? And one of them is a GIRL! it is really really really funny though i must admit. i want to see more of the bread shounen. there's a lot that i've left out here but it was all just so entertaining to watch LOL

they got fucking tuxedo mask in this show and also sometimes in the middle of their bread jokes and silliness it'll just hard cut to The War. and the ED has a video of a real life person making bread from scratch right next to kazuma kneading dough really good.
